Bill teaches you how to make the loose-tenon version of the joint using a plunge router, edge guide and a jig you can make yourself. He even shows you how. In this informative class with Charles, you’ll see how to make secret drawers and hidden compartments, a variety of locking mechanisms and learn how to build them into your next project.
Marquetry and Inlay In Depth Jane Burke Marquetry is veneer of different wood species used to create a design or picture. Jane teaches you how to make inlays, medallions or veneer entire surfaces. Learn what tools are needed, where to find designs, how a pattern is transferred and how to choose veneer. The craft knife cutting technique is demonstrated as well as gluing veneer onto a substrate. Sanding techniques and which finishes are best to use when working with wood veneer are also discussed.

You’ll learn how to micro-adjust any fence, use a starting pin, make damage-free cuts, deal with dust and maintain safe control of the workpiece. You’ll learn the differences between the coloring mediums, the pros and cons of each and application techniques. This in depth class gives you the tools to color match sapwood to heartwood or bring variances between boards into visual harmony. As an example, Peter takes a piece of poplar and then turns it into cherry. It’s not magic, but he makes it seem that way.
Edge Details Garrett Hack Edges are everywhere in furniture, along tabletops, around drawers, doors, cases and legs. Each is an opportunity to add some decorative interest, besides the practical concerns that sharp edges are unfriendly and more vulnerable to damage than one slightly rounded or chamfered. Garrett explains while he demonstrates how to make several great edge treatments that can be done with basic tools, from simple chamfers, to side beads and applied cockbeads, molded edges, underbevels, and inlaid edges.

Lamination, Demystifying the Process Garrett Hack Lamination is a great technique for creating strong, light, consistent, and stable curved parts. Garrett covers the entire lamination process from lifting a curve from a drawing, to making a form, sawing thin laminations, gluing and clamping, and finally truing and sizing the laminated part. He also discusses the advantages of lamination over other methods, dealing with different woods, glue choices, form designs, clamps vs. vacuum bag, and a few unusual lamination methods such as tapered, partial, and hybrids.

Make a Hickory Stool Geoffrey Noden Geoffrey’s workshop is all fun as you learn how to use inexpensive hand tools to make a simple footstool. First, you’ll watch Geoffrey go through the entire assembly process as he shows you how to work “green”(wet) wood to form the legs and seat base and then weave a seat from the inner bark of hickory trees. After that, you make your own stool to take home and enjoy forever. Class size limited to 6.
Make a Turned Awl Beth Ireland This hands-on workshop is pure fun, but gets you safely on a lathe in minutes and in two hours, you’ll learn to turn and take home an awl. Beth covers a wide range of practical information on turning and the basic elements of spindle turning, measuring, sizing, and finishing. The awl is a tool used in all parts of woodworking for marking and punching and you’ll make your own tool that you can use for years to come. Class size limited to 8.
Making Decorative Details Garrett Hack In this workshop with Garrett, you’ll cut a variety of alluring and unique details using a simple tool you make. The tool is a scratchstock (steel, filed to shape and held in a wooden fence). After making your own scratchstock you’re ready to try making side beads, raised beads known as cockbeads, which are used to highlight the edge of a drawer, and fine inlay lines, known as strings. You’ll learn about other edge details like chamfers and bevels too. Class size limited to 8.
Make a Mahogany Tissue Box Cover Frank Klausz Frank demonstrates his world renowned artistry for making hand cut dovetails as part of the joinery for this project, then he shows how the joints fit together to create the box cover. After that, it’s your turn to pick up a saw. You’ll begin by marking dovetails using Frank’s simple method then it’s time to clamp the work and get sawing.
