INSTANT GALLERY COMPETITION
Our instant gallery competition for the 2008 - 2009 season is sponsored by WOOD magazine. Enter your work for one, two or three days and you could be a winner!
|

The WoodWorks Instant Gallery Competition is an inspiring display of local woodworking talent, judged by a panel of well-known woodworking experts and beautifully displayed in our Saw Dust Café Instant Gallery for the duration of each of our shows. This season, WoodWorks will be awarding ribbons and prizes in six distinct categories of work. Category winners from the season's events will be eligible to win one of our great prizes. Our grand prize will be announced shortly.
Entry Guidelines
The Saw Dust Café Gallery Competition is open to amateur woodworkers only. For purposes of this competition, an amateur is defined as someone who makes less than half his income from woodworking.
Work displayed in the gallery may be offered for sale, WoodWorks does not take any commission. Contact show management for more information on selling your work.
Categories of work:
Furniture - functional pieces such as chairs, tables and cabinets
Accessories - functional work that is "smaller than a breadbox"
Decorative - sculptural work such as marquetry, intarsia and carving
Turning - decorative or functional work produced on a lathe, excluding furniture
Scrolled work - work that is produced on a scrollsaw
Other - includes musical instruments and work that does not meet the criteria in other classes
Prizes to be awarded in each category:
At every event, we will be offering ribbons and small prizes for first, second and third places as well as honorable mention awards in each category. Other prizes will be announced. First-place entries in each category from each event venue will be photographed and annotated for grand prize judging in January 2009.
To enter:
You may enter any number of pieces, in more than one category, but only one will be eligible to win a prize. Entries can be made any day, and remain there for one, two or all three days of the completion. We prefer that you pre-register online, mail or fax an entry form of our online registration form. The form is located at http://www.woodworksevents.com/galleryform.shtml or you may request a form by phone, fax or e-mail. You may also bring the completed entry form on the day you enter the competition.
Phone: 866.749 4988 Fax: 215. 701 4575 E-mail: info@woodworksevents.com
Some entries may be limited by available space. Woodworkers who intend to enter large or oversized work are encouraged to submit entries as early as possible.
Pickup and delivery:
Entrants may bring their entries to the show on any day, two (2) hours prior to opening of the event or on Thursday between 4PM and 8PM. No entries will be accepted any other time. No entries may be removed from the instant gallery after the show opens and all entries must be picked up no later than 8PM on Sunday. WoodWorks provides 24-hour security during the event.
Judging:
A distinguished panel of five professional woodworkers will judge the competition. The judge's decision is final. After the judging is completed, entrants are encouraged to meet the judges and receive an informal critique of their work if desired. Awards will be given at this time. Unclaimed awards may be picked up in the show office at any time during the event.
Judging criteria:
Work is judged on the basis of overall craftsmanship, degree of difficulty and design. Craftsmanship pertains to the suitability of particular joinery, execution of the piece, and finish. Degree of difficulty pertains to the scale and complexity of the piece and the difficulty of making it. A reproduction of a classical furniture form may receive less consideration for design, since the design is not original, but it may receive higher scores for difficulty and craftsmanship. Judges' decisions are final.
Who may enter:
